Believe It to See It

Some of you may know this and some of you may not, but I’m very excited to announce after a bit of research and consideration, I have made the decision to become a health and fitness coach with a little company you may or may not know called BeachBody.

I know I’ve written about a couple of the exercise challenges that I’ve been participating in and I found that it’s a natural thing for me to be encouraging and supportive. It’s the funniest thing. Who would’ve thought that the author of a 2 year old blog named Apozitude would be encouraging and supportive in a challenge environment. LOL
Folks, this is what I was born to do. It’s happening and I have every reason to succeed. I believe it with every fiber of my being and so it shall be.

It’s a Good Thing

I know what I am here to do. I feel it in every fiber of my being. I love encouraging people and lifting them up. I love helping people. I love the sound of determination in a person’s voice when they decide to make a change for the better. I want to do this. I am doing this. This choice is for me.
It’s hard sometimes when people decide to make changes, especially if the change they decide to make subtracts them from your daily life, but that’s actually not a bad thing. When other’s make a change that shakes up your reality it gives you an opportunity to make changes in your life.
Living life without change keeps you stuck in one place in your life. Change is going to happen no matter what, so you might as well belly up to the bar and make friends with change.

Harness the Power

When you become aware of the Laws of the Universe and realize how to harness the powers to your
benefit, you can totally change your whole life with simple little changes in thought and in attitude.

    Think about it.

The Law of Gravity can be very kind or very cruel. You’ve got to use your head. The Law of Gravity keeps us from floating out into space an keeps our feet firmly planted on the ground (kind), but will also plummet you to the depths of the Grand Canyon if you step out beyond the boundary (cruel). But is it really??? Not really, the Law of Gravity is consistent and unbending. In that manner, it’s very predictable and so predicable that you can count on it unequivocally.

The same goes for the Law of Attraction. You’ve got to use your head. What you think about, you bring about. Like the Law of Gravity the Law of Attraction is consistent and unbending. If you don’t like what’s happening in your life, change it!!!

The truly amazing thing is, you have ALL the POWER to make your life the way you’d like for it to be. Like energies attract like energies. Be mindful where you dedicate your thoughts. Be accountable and take responsibility for your life. You will be amazed at the power you actually have in your life. Once you commit to a positive attitude and decide to harness your power you’ll live in awe of the pretty amazing things you see show up in your future.

Imagine it the way you’d like for it to be and so shall it be. Commit to unbending intent.

Where Do You Live?

There is no better feeling than the feeling of knowing you’re making a positive healthy choice in your life. There are so many ways to make healthy choices, it’s not just about eating well and exercising. It’s also about being true to yourself.
An example of being true to yourself may be saying no and drawing a boundary. Everyone is excited about their own gig and just because Dick and Jane are into Salsa dancing and invite you to go doesn’t mean you have to say yes if that’s not your cup of tea.
The beautiful thing about life is the variety that’s available. If everyone loved salsa dancing, life would get a bit boring. I’ve never tried salsa dancing. I’m not opposed to it, but there’s not a huge draw for me in that direction. I love how diverse the world is and I love the opportunities in life to try new things.
Trying new things can be scary, but I think staying stuck in a rut is even more scary. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to get to the end of my life and have a pile of regrets. There’s so much to see and do, I can’t imagine doing the exact same thing all the time and not trying new things. I love challenging myself to get outside my comfort zone. I feel so alive when I’m living on the edge. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy my sense of security, but I also love the sense of adventure. Push the boundaries. Try new things, if you don’t like it, stop.
If you don’t try, you won’t know.
The secret to happiness is developing balance. Get out there and enjoy new things. Say, YES to life and trust your inner guidance. Know when it’s right for you to draw a boundary. It’s ok to say no and it’s ok to feel a little scared sometimes. Just know that stepping beyond feeling scared and into positive action exercises your brave muscles.

The Smile on My Face

I love knowing what I know. I love learning and growing. I love opening myself up to new challenges. I am excited about my life and the opportunities that have opened up in my life.

Look out world, here I come.

We all have dreams and we all deserve to have our dreams fulfilled. We must realize that sometimes we are standing in our own way. Get out of your own way. Believe in yourself. Have positive thoughts. See love in the world and give it back. Be the change you want to see in your life.

You are your own ticket to freedom.

You’re not Alone

There are a million excuses not to exercise. I know because I’ve used many of them. What I can tell you about making and using excuses not to exercise is this, it makes me feel like crap!!! I don’t know about you, but personally, I don’t like to feel like crap.

I don’t particularly like exercising, but what I do like is feeling fit. I like that I can still wear the same size jeans I wore in high school. I like that I can be faced with a flight of 70 stairs to get down to the beach and I don’t think twice about taking them an extra 3 times just for the exercise. I like that when a vacation to Hawaii arrives, I try on a bikini, I look at myself in the mirror and don’t think, “Oh HELL NO!!!” That makes me feel good.

My focus on fitness and healthy eating helps me to feel young. Who doesn’t like feeling young? I like having the cardiovascular health to dance all night long if I wanted. I like being strong enough to be able to pick up my 70 lb dog if I need to.

         Fitness feels good to me.

So, when I don’t feel like working out, I remind myself how good it feels to be fit. When doughnuts, french fries and any number of other things smell tempting I remind myself how I feel when I eat those things. I’ve convinced myself on a number of occasions that those temptations are poison.

Do I ALWAYS resist? Hell no! I love french fries, but the majority of the time I’m making healthy choices. Sometimes, when I want french fries, I go to a grocery store deli and order 3 jojos. The clerk often gives me a weird look, but they always comply with my request. It’s always under a dollar and usually right around .50 cents. Anyway, it satisfies my french fry craving and is not a huge indiscretion.

Healthy living is a challenge for most people, myself included. What I’ve found to be integral to my success is making a decision to do it for myself, for my own sense of satisfaction and health and having a support system in place.

I admit I’m super lucky because my wife is an amazing source of support, plus she cooks yummy healthy meals. However, if you’re on a road to health and fitness and you feel you’re on your own there is no need to worry. There are lots of resources for support and encouragement. No one has to be alone on their journey to be fit or maintain health. If you’re new to fitness or have been at it for awhile and find yourself needing support, I encourage you to check out

I’ve found some amazing work out buddies in a couple of beach body challenges and even though Keri and I have each other to encourage and push each other along on our fitness journeys, I’ve found the support and camaraderie of my challenge group to be that little extra push I need sometimes. Thank you work out buddies.

Enjoy the Waypoint

A few years back Keri and I discovered the joy of geocaching. If you’ve not heard of geocaching, I encourage you to check it out. It’s a fun way to get yourself outside and walking. Check out the link.

The reason I bring it up today is because geocaching provided an opportunity for me to learn about coordinates. I love maps and geocaching opened up a whole new world for me. Even simply learning the terminology was fun: coordinates, longitude, latitude, waypoint and many more.
Geocaching also provided a bit of clarity for me in my everyday life, because I learned on one particular hunt that a matter of 5° can make a huge difference in the long run. How has this affected my everyday life? Well, it’s helped me to realize that the slightest little tweak in perception, mindset and action can make a huge difference. So, when I am learning something new or making a healthier choice, I’m a great deal more patient with myself. I appreciate the incremental changes.
There is so much to see at 40.7127° N, 74.0059° W and I’ve only been there one time in my life. Everything around us is changing and we’re changing with in all those changes. Therefore, even if I went back to those exact coordinates it could never be the same experience as it was before. Little changes make a huge difference and that’s why the saying, It’s the little things that mean the most, exists.
Remember, when things are changing, you’re leaning something new or beginning to incorporate fitness into your life, go easy on yourself. Take your time and enjoy the view at each coordinate. Every tiny change you make will improve your life. Parking further from the door, drinking water through the day, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, replacing negative self defeating thoughts with positive, encouraging self talk. Any ONE of these things will improve your life and you’ll never be exactly the same person you are today, ever again.

Be loving and nice to yourself. You are the only you we’ve got.

Other than having love, joy and peace in my own life, there is no greater joy than seeing these qualities in the lives of the ones near and dear to my heart.

It just goes to show that more of what you desire will flow to you and those around you as you allow yourself to have inner peace. Be the change you want to see in your life. Harness internal  peace regardless of external stimulus.

    It’s a very attractive quality.

You may have it ALL

Before I had an iPhone I had a T-mobile flip phone and I thought it was super cool. It had very simple and pixelated, but exciting games (for me at the time) to play. It was the first phone that  allowed me to send and receive text messages AND I could select any song I wanted to attach to a specific person when they called. It was fantastic! I loved it!

The song I selected for my mom, I picked for 2 reasons. First, I’ll tell you the name of the band, because that’s one of the reasons I picked this particular song for my mom. Have you ever heard of that little British band out of London from 1970? Oh what was the name? OH Yeah!!! Queen!!!
Oh my goodness!!! My mom loves Queen. She’s very excited to tell you about how she loves this group “because of their versatility and style of music. Their individual talents that contribute to the whole, the classical music influence, and Freddie Mercury’s charisma, magnitude to capture such a diverse audience. The music is unique, not redundant and not just one specific sound…..each member has their own style in voice/ instruments and they write their own music! Very dynamic!” Yes, those are her exact words. I love my Momma. 🙂
The song from Queen I chose for her back then was, I Want It All. The opening of the song is dramatic and intense. In harmony, the members of the band sing a cappella, “I want it all”, 3 times followed by, “And I want it now”.
When I told my mom back then that THIS was the song I designated as her ring tone, she was thrilled and told me she DID want it all. We had a different relationship then than we have now. We had different perceptions and expectations of life. We have been similar in many ways all through my life, but one thing that was different for so long was our spiritual connection. We’ve spoken about this many times throughout the years.
When I would talk about meditation and the peace I get from the practice, my mom would tell me she couldn’t meditate. She would tell me she didn’t have the patience for it. I would say, “You’re right. You don’t have the patience for meditation, until you do and then you will” It was frustrating for her, because she really wanted a sense of peace, a sense of connection. She wanted it all and she wanted it NOW.
I told my mom it’s easier than you think. It’s a shift in mindset. It’s turning away from the unwanted and focusing on the wanted. She called me one morning, years ago, pretty upset about something that had happened and she started the conversation like this, “I hate to start your day like this, but,…” my reply was simple. “Then don’t”
It can be difficult to see a clear way when your vision is clouded with so many things that you find displeasing. It’s not hocus pocus. It’s focus. My mom has changed her focus. She is gaining her inner poise. Her energy has calmed and she is an amazing woman. She sees now that having it all is an incremental process and at the same time it is also having it NOW.
The ALL that everyone is after is happiness and it’s far closer than you think. Shift your focus within and there you’ll find the ALL, the happiness that you’ve been searching for and you can have it now.
