Feelings Last, Make an Impression

Every day that we are blessed enough to open our eyes and face another day of life, we’re given an amazing gift of opportunity. The opportunity is this, you can look at challenges that come your way on any given day and you can make a choice. Will this challenge make me or break me?

IMG_3391Asking that question right now as I write reminds me of a poster I saw when I was a kid. I can remember standing in front of that poster, reading the words and feeling like I want to remember this. I read it over and over in an attempt to memorize it. I can never remember all the words, but what I do remember is the feeling it provided deep in my heart. I’m always able to remember the opening line and that has always been enough for me, but for the sake of sharing it with you I utilized my trusty friend, Google, to fill in the gaps. I’ve shortened it and revamped it just a bit, but it goes something like this:

“When things go wrong as they sometimes will, When the road you’re traveling seems all uphill, When funds are low and debts are high, When you want to smile but can only cry, When life is pressing down a bit, rest if you must but don’t you ever quit. Because just beyond your fears and doubt, You’ll find success disguised as failure turned inside out.”

The line that always comes to mind for me is, When the road you’re traveling seems all uphill,…

And the feeling I remember is, Don’t you ever quit!!!

Dare to Push the Limits

Keri and I decided a few weeks back to take an impromptu trip to sunny San Diego. We, (Keri) had all we could take of the rain and wanted a quick little sun fix. In route to San Diego, on the air plane, I notice in the lavatory a sign that reads, Smoking is Prohibited, yet there is an ashtray provided on the interior of the door.IMG_1165

It makes me wonder, how long has smoking been prohibited on air planes? How old is this air plane? So, I asked.

I approached Kurt, one of our kind flight attendants, “May I ask you a question?” He smiled and replied, “One question”

Me being me, I pushed the limits.

“How old is this air plane?”

“About 15 years old.”

“How long has smoking been prohibited?”

“Oh, a long time. Probably since the mid to late 80’s.”

“Why then did the plane get made with an ashtray inside the bathroom?”

“Just in case and to save money.”

“Just in case?”

“Well, just in case someone breaks the rules, they’ll have a safe place to extinguish their cigarette.”

“Wow!!! Do people really still try to smoke in the bathroom?”

“Occasionally,… also if for some reason this plane were to be sold to another country that allows smoking on their air craft, it would cost about $30,000 just to add that little ash tray in the door.”

Wow!!! I don’t know what’s more impressive? The fact that the little ash tray would cost so much to install, the fact that people still try to smoke on an air plane or the fact that I was able to ask WAY more than one question.

Is your Maintenance Light on?

We live in a fast paced world!!! There’s NO denying it.

Hurry! Hurry! Hurry! Get to work! Get to lunch, run some errands, get back to work! Get through the day. Get home, get dinner on, get it cleaned up, do household chores, get ready for bed, hurry up get to sleep, just so you and get up and do it all again. Get to here, get to there, so we can get to where we want to be.

When do we get time to recuperate and rest?

Self care is often over looked in our fast paced society, yet it is so critical in the process of continually improving ourselves.

When do we get time for rest, self improvement and self preservation????

I’ll tell you when!!!

When YOU make YOU a priority in your life. Can you drive your car for years, if you don’t take the time to stop and get the proper maintenance ? NO. So, why would you treat your one and only body less than you’d treat your replaceable vehicle?

The time is NOW! Step up for yourself and take the time you need to preserve yourself. There’s only one you.

Life is Short, Who Cares What Makes YOU Smile as long as YOU Smile

Every single minute of every single day you have a choice.

Are you going to focus on something that upsets you?  Y or N

Are you going to find something that makes you smile?  Y or N

There’s nothing you can do about what anyone else does, says or thinks, so you might as well focus on what makes YOU happy. Therefore, I added a little sticker to the face of my phone. I look at my phone ALL through the day and this little sticker makes me smile.

I doesn’t matter to me what anyone else thinks about it because what someone else thinks is none of my business. I’m embracing MY source of happiness for ME! IMG_3346

From an Only, Happy International Siblings Day

Yesterday was National Siblings Day. Facebook was flooded with all these adorable pictures of my friends with their siblings from their youth and current group pictures with proclamations of love and gratitude for siblings who have been there for each other through thick and thin. It’s a wonderful day to show appreciation for all that you’ve been through together as siblings.

I am an only child. In the past this day has been very sad for me because all throughout my life I thought I wanted a sibling and I thought I was really missing out on something, but you know what? This may have been the first year National Siblings Day has come along and I was able to click like and comment on pictures of friends with their siblings and feel completely at peace with the fact that I’m an only child.

I’ve had multiple conversations with my mom about her choices and I appreciate the forethought she put into her decision to have an only child. I appreciate her decision to dedicate  all of her parenting energies on raising me the best way that she knew how. She asked for help with some things that she felt were best handled by others and I used to wonder why. When I asked her, she told me she wanted the very best for me and she sometimes felt she herself didn’t have the best to offer me, so she found people to help me.

I have the very best mom in the whole wide world for me. I could never tell her enough how much her love means to me. I could never fully express the gratitude I have for her forethought to do her best to provide me with the very best that she knew how to provide me.

As I type this blog, it’s the evening of National Siblings Day and I don’t have a picture or memories to share of me with a sibling, but do you know what I do have? I have the best mom in the world who loves me with everything she’s got and she always has and I have never for one day of my life ever doubted the depth of her love for me. Thank you Momma for everything. I respect your decision. I love my life and it wouldn’t be the life I love if it were different. Screen Shot 2016-04-10 at 7.42.08 PMScreen Shot 2016-04-10 at 7.55.28 PM

What’s stuck in the whirlwind???

There are a whole bunch of things in a day that could kick you off into the weeds. What do I mean by this?

Well, it’s kinda like this, you’re happily be-bopping through your day, following along on your path of where you wanna go and all of a sudden someone says something that just strikes a nerve. All of a sudden you’re off your path to your intended destination walking around in circles in the weeds trying to figure out why someone would say something JUST to piss you off.

You’re stuck off in the weeds, all frustrated and getting no where fast. Well, the truth of the matter is what someone else says to you about you or anything you’re doing is absolutely none of your business. They probably no more knew how their words were going to affect you than a fart knows how to get out of a whirlwind. You have got to let that go!!!

Do you see how allowing someone else’s words to have an affect on you in a negative manner has zero affect on anyone else, but that it’s keeping you from your intended destination???

Blaming others robs us of our power to guide our ship in the direction WE want to go.

I don’t know about you, but I care too much about how I feel and where I wanna go to let some fart in a whirlwind kick me off into the weeds.

Maturity. I think it’s over rated.

I don’t know how many of you listen to meditation music, but I do, especially when I’m writing my blog because the lyrics of songs can be so distracting. Writing for this blog is very reflective and introspective.

I feel like over the last few years that I’ve been writing this blog, I’ve grown quite a bit. I know myself way better and I’m more patient and gentle with myself on my life journey. Maybe it’s the self-reflection and introspection of the writing and maybe its the hours and hours of meditation music I’ve listened to over the years. Who knows,… I’m inclined to give credit to both.

I do know, however, that there is something to be said for quieting the noise of our very active minds. I know that when our minds are crowded with thoughts, whether they are thoughts of worry or reliving upsetting situations or trying to figure out why something happened the way that it did or why someone has treated us in a manner that we find displeasing, it makes it all the more difficult to hear the subtle and quiet divine answers that may be trying to reach us.

I believe it was Einstein that said, “We cannot solve a problem with the same mindset that created the problem” and that my friends is why it is so vitally important for growth and change to slow down, quiet your mind and allow divine guidance a chance to assist you. This has done WONDERS for me in my transformational growth. I’m more confident in myself than I have ever been.

However, transformational growth doesn’t always affect maturity, hence the point I was going to make about meditation music. Have you ever noticed how the waterfalls in meditation music always make you feel like you hafta’ pee like RIGHT NOW!!!! Jump up and go to the bathroom and then get yourself settled into some still quiet mind time.

Tip: go to Pandora create a station called meditation by the sea. It’s one of my favorites. Screen Shot 2016-04-06 at 8.37.53 AM
