BE YOU!!! Everyone Else is Taken

What’s the ONE thing you can count on in your life? Think about it for a moment. Whatever your answer is now, I guarantee you that with time your answer will change and the reason I know this to be true is because in all honesty, the #1 thing you really can count on is change. When you pause for a moment you begin to see how your “right now” experiences will create change in you from the person you were to the person you will become.

I know we live in a fast paced world of answers in the palm of your hand, but when you Google “sense of peace” and read what the internet claims the definition of this term to be, does it create a sense of peace within you. Even if I provided the definition for you here and you were able to read the meaning right this moment would a spark of clarity and peace ignite within you? It’s not very likely and the reason is because a sense of peace is not something you can download, upload or snap into reality. Peace is a way of life. Peace is clearing your mind of the clutter. Peace is being kind to yourself and others.

The other day during my guided meditation, I was instructed to focus on my breath. Focus on the very beginning of your breath where your awareness is the strongest. I always focus on the feeling of my breath coming and going through my nose. Focus on the beginning of your breath as it enters your body and without forcing your breath or changing it in any way, pay attention to the natural flow of your breath. Once you inhale, you’ll feel the middle of your breath just before this breath transitions to an exhalation there’s a brief pause. That pause is the middle of your breath and then when the breath leaves your body you come to the end of this breath. To help you focus on breathing, as you practice keeping a quiet mind you can say beginning, middle, end. I tried doing this. Beginning, middle, end, beginning, middle, end, beginning, middle, end. I quickly discovered for me this was changing the natural flow of my breathing, so I changed it to: b, m, e, b, m, e, b, m, e. After just a couple breaths I realize in a manner of speaking I was chanting; be me be me be me. I could feel a grin of satisfaction form on my face because this is what a sense of peace feels like.

Regardless of how I change over time and whatever mood I’m in at any given moment, I know I’m free to be me. Yes, I believe I’ll continue my practice of meditation. I love living aware.

Your Buck Doesn’t Stop Here

I’ve only known Nikki for about 5 and half months, but in that short amount of time she has shown me kindness, acceptance and support. She has provided me with much appreciated assistance during a transitional time in my life and all in spite of the life threatening challenge she faces daily.

You see 7 years ago Nikki was convinced it was safe to move forward a decision because she was assured she would be safe with FDA approval and multiple guarantees of the safety and relative simplicity of a breast implant procedure. However, as she has come to discover, along with thousands of other women that the FDA approved implants cause a rapid decline in heath. Nikki’s body is working over time to battle the toxicity these implants have caused her, robbing her of the energy to fully enjoy her life, but she’s not hosting a pity party, in fact she’s doing everything in her power to help raise awareness of this illness now known as Breast Implant Illness.

When I tell you, your buck doesn’t stop here, what I mean is that your support of Nikki in her time of need will have a meaningful and positive affect on her life as well as the lives of all the women she’s making such a great effort to reach. Her efforts are not in vain, since she’s been raising awareness several women she knows have reached out to her thanking her for sharing her story because they realize they have some similar symptoms. Now those women have a glimmer of hope that they too could make a plan of their own to restore their health.

Nikki has a beautiful spirit and is trying so hard to do her best to get herself back to good health so she may better enjoy time with her adorable daughter and her fiance. She would never want to impose on anyone and so I’ve taken it upon myself to ask on her behalf. She and her family need your help to help cover the costs associated with restoring her health.

You can help Nikki and thousands of other women. Your support is key in helping Nikki.

Would you consider making a donation to help her achieve her mission?

We thank you in advance for your support! Your donation is greatly appreciated and will be used to help cover the cost of Nikki’s medical bills and ex-plant surgery that insurance won’t cover and in her health she will continue her mission to raise awareness. You can donate online at Nikki’s GoFundme. Please feel free to share this blog with someone you may know who may be fighting this illness. You could be the person who saves her life.

#HeathyBoobsAreHappyBoobs

There are so many wonderful and inspiring things going on right now that I want to share with you guys, but I have to decide for ME what has the highest priority in this moment. When I take the time to make a mindful decision, it’s easy to choose.

As faithful followers of Apozitude, you know my mission is to raise awareness, because as I’ve quoted Peter Matthiessen in the past, “The purpose of our life is to help others through it” and with Apozitude my mission is to help others through life by shining a light on the fact that we are empowered with the ability to choose. We can’t always control the circumstances of our lives, but we certainly can control our reaction to those circumstances. Even in what seems like a horrible situation, we can look for the good and focus our attention there.

A wonderful example of this is my friend Nikki who has been struggling with a decline in her health over the last 6 years. I realize you may be scratching your head with bewilderment as to why I’d refer to my friend’s declining health as a wonderful thing, so let me clarify the wonderful thing she’s doing with her discovery. As her symptoms increased, she was desperately trying to figure out what the hell was happening with her body and without the help from the various doctor’s appointments she’s attended over the last year, she discovered through her own research that she is suffering from Breast Implant Illness. She has decided to take action and an explant surgery has been scheduled. Nikki is bravely taking action for others as well by sharing her story, the stories of others and articles on her Facebook page to raise awareness of this toxic and totally preventable illness. She has an amazing positive attitude regarding her return to health after her surgery and though the situation is very serious she’s finding her own way to bring levity to her life, “Moving forward, I’m gonna join the itty bitty titty committee😂explanting April 13th👍🏻💪🏻💞 thank you for your love and support.

“The list of illnesses goes on unfortunately and there are many, including autoimmune diseases that have affected thousands and thousands of women… “YES there is proof and we’ve got it. Remove your hand from OUR mouth and let OUR VOICE speak out!”-Nikki Sattler💞

In the spirit of Apozitude, please take a moment to raise your awareness by reading Nikki’s story and consider supporting her cause. You may know someone who’s struggling in the dark with their health and this could be the light that sets them free. All positive energy and donations are greatly appreciated. I believe with Nikki that she will resume her healthy life because I see her positive attitude even during some of her toughest moments of dealing with the pain of Breast Implant Illness (BII). Nikki believes in her health despite what the medical professionals report and I support her in her efforts to raise awareness regarding the dangers of these toxic and horrible implants. Don’t get me wrong, I love 😍 boobs, just not toxic fake ones and not at the cost of my friends health or any other persons health for that matter.

Thank you for your following and sharing Apozitude.

Awareness Boost

Not feeling the joy in life today?

It’s true. We’ve all had days like this. When one thing or another has kicked us off into the weeds. Sometimes, we wallow in it for a bit, but after awhile we begin to realize it doesn’t feel good to not feel good, so we look for ways to feel better.

Wouldn’t it be cool if we could do something to shorten the length of time that we wallow and don’t feel good? Wouldn’t it be so cool and amazing if we had a choice. We could experience something unwanted or undesirable and without much of a ripple at all we could let that disruption just slip away. Oh man,… Think about how much happier we all would be. Think about how much better we could treat each other if we only had a choice. The world would be such a different place if we could choose to let go of our dissatisfaction quicker and return to a state of happiness.

IMG_0577

We turned it and you can too.

I know you know I’m being facetious, but here’s the point I’m trying to make, We do have a choice. We can focus of something that helps us feel better and we can raise awareness. You don’ have to feel bad. You have a choice. You can feel good. You decide. I know I write about this  quite a bit, but I do it because I see evidence around me that the message needs to be repeated until this awareness sinks in. It’s getting better. We do live in a age of greater awareness than we’ve ever lived in before. It is getting better and better is better. That makes me feels good. We say pas it on.

Understanging Goes a LONG Way

I learned something about myself this last week. It’s always fun to learn a little bit more about myself. Actually, the thing I learned about myself, I already knew, but what happened was I came to a new level of understanding. I believe understanding provides a sense of calm and peace.

I took a personality test at work and discovered of the four personality styles: driver, analyzer, influencer and stabilizer, I am primarily,… anyone want to guess??? Well, since I don’t actually have super human powers and can’t hear your guess, I’ll just assume you’re right. I’m primarily an influencer and my secondary style is stabilizer.

It totally makes sense, don’t you think? Here is a break down of each personality type. I’m sharing it here because I believe awareness is a HUGE piece of personal break throughs. Check it out. See what you think might apply to you and those in your inner circle. Perhaps a little understanding of others will provide you with a sense of calm and peace.

Here are my results.

Destination – Tranformation

I feel like I have just experience a huge paradigm shift. Last week I was feeling stuck in some very old thought patterns that were not serving me at all and I felt desperately lonely. From where I am sitting now I can not even imagine that I ever felt those feelings, BUT I am so glad that I did and of course I can say that now becasue I am beyond it, but if I didn’t experience it I couldn’t be beyond it. I could not be on this other wonderful side of it and I can not believe how amazing it feels to just let go of those horrible feelings.

I carried them with me for a very long time and now they are gone. I love the idea of expanding beyond something that was troubling you because once you have gotten beyong it you never have to go back. Awareness is the most amazing thing ever.

I am KNOWING that I am untethered and I am very excited about the path that is revealing it’s self before me. I am stepping into the very next huge thing for me and I have been refining my preferences for a while now and I am ready for the next bit to unfold.

Look out you’re just about to witness and amazing transformation.

Drainers Evicted!!!

We ALL have shit to work through, even the person that you look up to the most and hold in the highest regard has shit to process. It’s just part of the deal you sign up for when you decide to walk the earth. You said yes to being human and when you said yes you knew there would be conflict and contrast.

The key ingredient of conflict and contrast is resistance. Resisting what IS,… your imperfections, the imperfections of your situation or the imperfections of someone you love, are in fact the source of your suffering.

Stop doing that!!!

How do you stop? The opposite of stop is start. The opposite of resist is allow. It’s simple really,… Stand up and walk out. Get in some open space and feel the glorious freedom.

Start allowing.

We’re all dealing with our own SHIT the best way we know how with our current level of awareness. So, just keep in mind how you’ve felt on a particularly shitty day. Take a moment to consider that someone who was rude or exceptionally reactive to you, could have just had a totally shitty day.

However, there are always exceptions to the rules. If someone is generally over reactive or consistently a source of drama, known as a drainer because they drain your life energy, clarify your expectations. Let your boundaries be known. If the suspected drainer doesn’t respect your boundaries, it is up to you to evict them from your life and the sooner the better. Otherwise you are allowing the drainer to remain in your life.

The only person you can be aggravated with in a situation with a drainer, is yourself for allowing them to stay. This is your life. You have permission to decide who is in it.

Full Spectrum of feelings

Sometimes I have no idea what to write about for this blog. I sit in front of my little iPad screen and want very badly to write something touching. Something that makes a difference in someones life and sometimes I start writing a few sentences and I don’t really feel moved in particular direction. I start again, and write a couple of sentences or a paragraph and think, Damn it! Who gives a shit about this?

Well, apparently I give a shit about this, because I just keep writing. As I have said before I love writing this blog. It fills my soul with satisfaction. Knowing that people are waiting to read what I have written in hopes of getting a little lift in their day, keeps me motivated to write something meaningful.

Today I am moved to share with you the songs I heard this morning while I was eating my yummy breakfast with my wife. She made a yummy scramble, biscuits and gravy and these songs came on, all right in a row, while I was sitting across from her: Sunday Morning by Maroon 5, Your Life is Now by John Mellenkamp, Goodbye Girl covered by Rumor and Deee-Lite by Groove is in the Heart.

It is such an amazing thing to me how music can totally sweep you away and bring up feelings in you that you know are there, but the emotion in the music and the way the words are sung, just captures it so perfectly. Sunday Morning is about how nice it feels to stay in bed on a rainy Sunday and cuddle with the one you love. “Steal some covers share some skin, Clouds are shrouding us in moments unforgettable. You twist to fit the mold that I am in. Come and rest your bones with me. My fingers trace your every outline.” Love it!

I am so grateful for what I have in my life, I love to cuddle with my baby. Then, John Mellencamp’s song, Your Life is Now, came on. What an excellent reminder. “This is your time here to do what you will do. Your life is now. In this undiscovered moment, Will you lift your head above the crowd? Do you believe you’re a victim of a great compromise? ‘Cause I believe you could change your mind and change your life.” Powerful words that remind us that we have a choice. Totally empower yourself by embracing the concept that YOU HAVE A CHOICE!

Just a little reminder sung into my morning by Rumer with Goodby Girl. “Goodbye doesn’t mean forever, Let me tell you that goodbye doesn’t mean we’ll never be together again.” Honestly, there was a time that I could not listen to this song. That time was Jan. 2006. Keri and I were headed home from the airport after returning from Arizona when my dad passed away. My friend Michelle crossed my mind and the hurt that she is going through as she grieves the loss of her love. I believe when she is ready, love will find its way back into her life and it will blow her mind.

Then there’s Groove is in the Heart. If you don’t know this song and you love to dance, Look it up and get your ass on the dance floor. This song WILL BE played at our wedding reception. “We’re going to dance. We’re going to dance. We’re going to dance and have some fun. I couldn’t ask for another. Sing it Baby!!! Groove is in the heart. Watch out!” I could not help myself. I danced around my kitchen as I washed my dishes. Hands in the air, butt shakin’ this way and that, boppin’ around like I was high on life. Was I high on life? You bet I was. I love dancing!!! I felt like these songs took me on a full spectrum of feelings.

Grateful for the quite lovey moments of cuddling, knowing my life is NOW and living THIS moment to the fullest, realizing that there are always going to be times in life that are tough and very painful, but that time heals and happiness is right there when we are ready to dance, sing and celebrate life.

Life is such an amzing thing and I am so grateful to be surrounded by love.

Woes of a hair twirler

Since I’ve started growing out my hair I have this uncontrollable tendency to twirl my hair. If you have seen me in the last couple of months you’ve probably noticed I can’t seem to keep my fingers from twirling my hair and the reason I am mentioning it here in my blog is to raise awareness.

Awareness? Awareness of what?

Awareness of a rare condition know a Hair Twirlers Elbow aka H.T.E.

Symptoms of H.T.E consist of highly defined forearm muscles of one arm (usually the flexor capri ulnaris and palmaris longus, the two muscles responsible for movement of the thumb and first two fingers) slight pain in the ulnar collateral ligament and tightness in the deltoid of the afflicted arm.

If you know people that twirl their hair, please warn them of this rare condition. It can be a pain. I am trying to stop twirling my hair, but it is so soft and provides a self soothing affect to twirl it around my fingers, but it is beginning to affect my typing. There are no local support groups, so I am on my own trying to work through it.

When I notice I am reaching for my hair to start twirling, I ask myself if I am upset. If the answer is no, I ask myself then why are you trying to soothe yourself by twirling your hair? If the answer is yes, then I ask myself is twirling your hair going to help your upset? I am diligently working on resolving my own H.T.E. condition through behavior modification and a consistent application of arnicare gel.

Awareness is half the battle. Please spread the word.
